Old Process

The future of government shouldn't involve a fax machine.

In August 2015, the disability rate reached 31.5% within Alabama. In order to ensure that government offerings were as accessible as possible to the public, Montgomery – the capital of Alabama – needed to conduct a Public Access Survey. However, most survey tools didn't meet ADA or WCAG standards, which rendered them unusable for a survey whose purpose was to improve the City's accessibility program. Kimberly Wright, Montgomery's webmaster, knew that the City needed a tool that would allow her to build an ADA & WCAG compliant survey form with required fields, field validation, radio buttons, and more. This survey would need to be accessible for disabled users who utilize screen readers and other assistive technologies.

New Process

In minutes we were able to convert the existing process into a smart online experience.

Through SeamlessGov, Kimberly found a survey building tool that was ADA, 508, and WCAG 2.1 compliant, ensuring that a wide range of users would have equitable access to the survey's content. Thanks to the built-in text size adjustment feature in SeamlessGov web forms, Montgomery's constituents can easily adjust the size and layout of content in the online survey. Furthermore, anyone accessing the form with their assistive technologies has access to the content, as all SeamlessGov fields come tagged with alt text. Thanks to the new accessible survey form, dozens of Montgomery's constituents have submitted feedback regarding the accessibility of the City's services, allowing Montgomery to continue developing accessible services for all of their constituents.

Savings

By making the process smart we enhanced the experience while saving valuable time and money.
